We’re all trying to cut down on screen time, right? I'm a big believer that the Apple Watch (and other wearable devices) are a great tool to reduce phone dependency. However, they currently fall short in three areas: battery life, their ability to find quick answers on the web, and written communication. The tiny keyboard, poor voice dictation, and small screen pose significant hurdles. Chirp AI is designed to overcome these barriers.
Chirp AI is built for voice-first interactions, letting you ask questions, draft messages, and get instant responses without ever pulling out your phone. Powered by Perplexity search and Google's multimodal LLM Gemini, it delivers accurate, relevant answers in real time. Need to send an email or text? Chirp learns your writing style and preferences, helping you craft perfect messages with ease,even remembering the nicknames you call your friends or partner!

Designing for a small screen
I designed a modular UI system that adapts to different use cases, from quick chat responses to longer, web search-informed responses with sources and images.
I also designed the system prompt to ensure Chirp responds with information in a format that is suitable for the Watch screen—think shorter paragraphs, a bias towards lists, and knowing when a five-word response is better than fifty.
